A Story of Hope: A Journey Towards Healing for a Brave Little Boy

A Story of Hope: A Journey Towards Healing for a Brave Little Boy

This is the story of a 2-year-old boy, the child of a North Indian missionary family working in the Vikaspuri area of Delhi. He was brought to Believers Church Medical College Hospital (BCMCH) with a heartbreaking history: for the past three months, this little one had been unable to move his lower limbs. His family, driven by hope and desperation, sought answers at some of the best medical colleges in the country. However, despite their extensive efforts, they were left without the clarity and direction they desperately needed.

Initially, Dr. Abel brought this child to Dr. Jijo’s OPD with a preliminary diagnosis of scurvy from Kalavati, but this diagnosis didn’t fit the clinical picture. After a thorough multi-disciplinary consultation involving Orthopedics, Hematology, and other departments, the child was admitted to the Pediatric ward. Anish Brillin took care of the child overnight, and with God’s guidance, the child’s reports revealed the correct diagnosis the following day: leukemia.

Thanks to the incredible expertise of Dr. Bonnie Anna George from our Hematopathology team, guided by her Head of Department, Dr. Elizabeth Joseph, the elusive diagnosis that had been missed for so long was finally made. This oversight had previously denied him a chance at recovery. Following the diagnosis, the child was transferred to Dr. Chepsy Philip, Head of Clinical Hematology, and is currently in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). He is scheduled to be shifted out tomorrow after a procedure on Dr. Chepsy’s side.

The child and his family are originally from West Bengal, and unfortunately, the illness took some time to reveal itself. It is concerning to think that just a few more days of delay could have been fatal for this brave little boy.

We deeply appreciate the care and precision with which Dr. Bonnie and her team approached this case. Their diligence and expertise not only provided answers but also offered hope to the family. The pathology team plays a critical role in our quest to provide the very best for our patients and to save lives.

If any of you feel moved to support this child on his treatment journey, please reach out to Dr. Chepsy Philip or the family.

Together, let us continue to offer our prayers and support to this little one and his family during this challenging time.
