"End the Stereotypes"

The Department of Pediatrics, Snehardram Child Development Centre of Believers Church Medical College Hospital, in collaboration with IAP Pathanamthitta, spearheaded various initiatives on March 21st in observance of "World Down Syndrome Day."

A highlight of the day was a free medical camp specially organized for children with Down Syndrome. This compassionate endeavor aimed to provide essential healthcare services and support to those in need.

Following the medical camp, a symposium was conducted to raise awareness among medical professionals regarding the "Follow-up and Care of a Child with Down Syndrome." Dr. Alphy Christinne Thomas, Assistant Professor in the Department of Pediatrics, delivered insightful sessions, shedding light on crucial aspects of caring for children with Down Syndrome.

In a significant development, an updated immunization book tailored for children with Down Syndrome was unveiled during the event. This comprehensive resource, released by Dr. Jijo Joseph John, Head of Pediatrics, and Dr. Elizabeth Varkey, Senior Consultant in the Department of Pediatrics, includes a meticulously crafted care plan card aligned with the latest recommendations from IAP (Indian Academy of Pediatrics). Additionally, it incorporates Down Syndrome growth charts to facilitate effective growth monitoring for these special children.

Heartfelt commendations are extended to Dr. Jijo, the Pediatrics team, and the CDC team for their outstanding efforts and dedication to this noble cause. Their initiative exemplifies compassion, inclusivity, and a commitment to serving the most vulnerable members of our community.

This initiative not only marks a significant step forward in promoting the well-being of children with Down Syndrome but also underscores the importance of collaboration, advocacy, and support in creating a more inclusive and understanding society.
