Inaugural Prayer Marks the Launch of Analytical Chemistry Laboratory (ACL) at BCMCH
The Analytical Chemistry Laboratory (ACL) of Believers Church Medical College and Hospital (BCMCH), a division under Precision Medicine and Pharmacometrics within the Department of Pharmacology, marked its official inauguration with a solemn prayer ceremony on 25th September 2024 at 12 pm. This event, held at the new ACL facility, celebrated the beginning of a new chapter in clinical care, research, and education at BCMCH.
A New Milestone in Analytical Chemistry
Analytical Chemistry is a crucial branch of science focused on the quantification of molecules, and the ACL at BCMCH is equipped to support the hospital’s growing needs in this area. Notably, the laboratory houses one of the world-class Liquid Chromatography Mass Spectrometers (LC-MS/MS), widely recognized as the gold standard for quantifying small molecules. This cutting-edge technology allows ACL to play a pivotal role in clinical care, advancing research and therapeutic practices through precise chemical analysis and drug monitoring.
The laboratory has been meticulously designed to foster clinical research and educational development, providing a state-of-the-art facility for clinicians, students, researchers, and industry professionals. The services offered by the ACL are positioned to enhance patient care and support interdisciplinary collaboration, both within the institution and beyond.
Leadership and Team at ACL
The head of ACL, Dr. Sumith K. Mathew, introduced the vision and mission of the lab during the event. He is joined by Dr. Ruth Mariam Ipe, who is responsible for overseeing the lab’s day-to-day operations and ensuring it adheres to the highest scientific standards. Dr. Ipe is supported by two skilled technicians, Ms. Riya Elizabeth Chacko and Ms. Deny John, who play essential roles in managing the lab’s functions and ensuring smooth operations.
Services and Capabilities at ACL
The ACL at BCMCH is equipped to offer a range of advanced services, including:
- Therapeutic Drug Monitoring (TDM)
- Dose optimization using Bayesian Forecast
- Quantification of biological molecules, such as steroids
- Screening for inborn errors of metabolism
These services will provide significant benefits in patient care by enabling personalized medicine through precise drug monitoring and optimization. The lab’s capabilities are also set to drive new research opportunities, particularly in the areas of pharmacology and metabolic disorders.
Inaugural Prayer Ceremony
The inaugural prayer was a heartfelt ceremony attended by approximately sixty guests, including directors, heads of departments (HODs), and staff from various disciplines across BCMCH. Dr. Sumith K. Mathew extended a warm welcome to all attendees and shared an insightful introduction to the mission of the ACL.
The prayer was led by Rev. Father Thomas Varghese, invoking blessings for the new venture. Dr. George Chandy Matteethra, the Director and CEO of BCMCH, and Dr. Jacob Jesurun, the HOD of Pharmacology, were present for the occasion. Dr. Matteethra emphasized the importance of the ACL and its potential for fostering inter-departmental and inter-institutional collaboration, a critical element in advancing healthcare and research at BCMCH.
