A Grand Inauguration Ceremony

In a remarkable step towards community welfare, Believers Church Medical College Hospital has officially launched its Social Work Department, reinforcing its commitment to compassionate healthcare. The inauguration ceremony was graced by Dr. Aip Varghese, the General Secretary of the India Network of Professional Social Workers Association and Head of the Social Work Department at BCM College, Kottayam. His presence underscored the significance of social work in healthcare institutions.

The event was presided over by Fr. Sijo Pandappallil, the Manager of Believers Hospital and a Senate Member of the University. His leadership has been instrumental in steering the hospital towards holistic patient care. The hospital’s Director, Prof. Dr. George Chandy, delivered the keynote address, emphasizing the vital role of social work in improving patient welfare and supporting families during medical crises.

Vision and Mission of the Social Work Department

The newly inaugurated Social Work Department aims to provide emotional, financial, and social support to patients and their families. By collaborating with various stakeholders, the department will work towards:

  • Patient Advocacy: Ensuring that patients receive the necessary care and support.

  • Financial Assistance Coordination: Helping patients access government schemes, charitable funds, and other financial aid programs.

  • Emotional & Psychological Support: Offering counseling and support groups to patients facing chronic illnesses or psychological distress.

  • Community Outreach: Conducting awareness programs, health camps, and social initiatives to extend medical support beyond hospital walls.

Training & Development for Social Workers

A special training session was conducted by Ms. Ann George, the Head of the Social Work Department at Believers Hospital. The session focused on equipping professionals with essential skills in medical social work, crisis intervention, and patient counseling. Her expertise and guidance provided valuable insights into the challenges and opportunities in the field.

The Road Ahead

With the inauguration of the Social Work Department, Believers Hospital has taken a significant step toward integrating social welfare with healthcare. This initiative aligns with the hospital’s mission to provide not just medical treatment but holistic care that addresses the physical, emotional, and social needs of patients.

As the department embarks on its journey, it aims to build strong partnerships with social work organizations, NGOs, and governmental bodies to ensure that no patient is left without the support they need. Through this initiative, Believers Hospital continues to uphold its ethos of compassion, care, and community service, making healthcare accessible and humane for all.
