Believers Church Medical College Hosts Landmark Mock Drill with Government Agencies

Strengthening Disaster Preparedness Through Collaboration

In a historic first for India, Believers Church Medical College Hospital (BCMCH) hosted a comprehensive disaster preparedness mock drill in collaboration with the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Fire and Rescue Services, and Kerala Police. This groundbreaking initiative, held under the direction of Pathanamthitta District Collector, Shri Premkrishnan S IAS, underscores the growing importance of public-private partnerships in emergency response.

This event was India’s first full-scale mock drill of its kind conducted in partnership with a private healthcare institution, setting a national benchmark for hospital-based disaster management training.

🔹 A Global-Standard Exercise

The mock drill was a key feature of United 24, an international disaster management conference that saw participation from prestigious institutions such as Johns Hopkins University and Christian Medical College (CMC) Vellore.

📌 Over 400 participants from medical, rescue, and administrative backgrounds attended the event.
📌 The exercise received international recognition, with global delegates commending the efficiency, coordination, and effectiveness of the drill.

🔹 Leadership and Execution

The multi-agency mock drill was expertly led by:

  • Shri S. Shankarapandian, Deputy Commandant, NDRF
  • Shri K.S. Ajith, Fire Officer
  • Shri Unnikrishnan G, Sub-Inspector, Kerala Police (Thiruvalla)

Together, these leaders coordinated efforts to simulate real-world disaster scenarios, ensuring that medical teams, first responders, and law enforcement personnel could work in sync to handle emergencies effectively.

🔹 Enhancing Kerala’s Disaster Resilience

During the event, BCMCH Hospital Manager, Reverend Fr. Sijo Panthapallil, emphasized the need for continuous training and preparedness. He announced plans to expand training programs, focusing on:

Hospital emergency response coordination
Advanced trauma care preparedness
Fire safety and mass casualty incident management
Multi-agency disaster drills to enhance real-time response capabilities

These initiatives align with BCMCH’s vision of strengthening Kerala’s healthcare infrastructure in the face of potential disasters.

🔹 Setting a New Standard in Disaster Management

The successful execution of this multi-agency drill proves that collaborative training is key to disaster resilience. With international recognition and government agency support, BCMCH has taken a pioneering step in integrating private healthcare institutions into national disaster preparedness frameworks.

👏 Kudos to the entire team for making history and setting a new benchmark for disaster management in India!
