The first day of the National Medical Council (NMC)-mandated Basic Course in Medical Education, hosted by our esteemed college, kicked off to a great start. The program was inaugurated by our beloved Director, Prof. Dr. George Chandy Matteethra, with the presence of prominent figures in medical education, including our Principal, Prof. Dr. Elizabeth Joseph, NMC coordinator Prof. Dr. Sairu Philip, Dean of Medical Education Prof. Dr. Thomas Chacko, and Vice Principal Vijayamma. The three-day course aims to train 30 faculty members in the fundamentals of competency-based medical education, ensuring a robust foundation for future medical educators.

The day commenced with an ice-breaking session, followed by an engaging activity on group dynamics, setting a lively tone for the rest of the day. The subsequent sessions delved into the core concepts of medical education, including the domains of learning, adult learning theories, roles, goals, and competencies. The importance of well-defined learning objectives and the exploration of various teaching-learning methods kept the participants engaged and interactive.

One of the key highlights of the day was the introduction to assessment, where the facilitators shed light on the nuances of formative and summative assessments, offering valuable insights into evaluating medical trainees effectively. The day concluded with a rich exchange of ideas and a sense of enthusiasm for the journey ahead.
